Covid has given me a whole new terror of numbers.
The fifth time I tucked the thermometer under my tongue, it finally showed what I was expecting all day. I was starting a fever. I’d felt it in my bones since limping to the kitchen to make tea in the morning. I pushed one reluctant muscle forward after another. My ankle was sore. Goddamit did I again walk into something my three-year-old had left lying around?
